A Family-Owned Building Company With the Leadership and Capacity to Manage More Than One Project at a Time
The Vintage Shed Company combines the accessibility and accountability of a small family business with the crews, equipment, management depth, trade relationships, and operating resources required to plan and execute multiple projects concurrently.
Edwin, Randall, and Travis Shackelford serve as the company's three principals. Each provides project management, field oversight, scheduling, resource coordination, quality control, and crew leadership, while Edwin remains the senior project authority and final decision-maker on construction standards, unusual site conditions, major scope decisions, and matters requiring executive judgment.
TVSC's structure is intentionally personal without being capacity-limited. Company crews, equipment, qualified specialty trades, and financial and operating resources are assigned according to project scope, allowing the company to support straightforward backyard structures as well as substantially larger and more complex custom projects.
Small-Business Accessibility Without Small-Business Limitations
TVSC is deliberately organized as a closely managed family company rather than a layered corporate operation. That means homeowners can reach the people responsible for the work, while the company can still mobilize the manpower, equipment, supervision, specialty trades, and project resources needed for multiple active builds.
Edwin Shackelford is the founder and senior project authority, a U.S. Army veteran with a Construction Management degree, extensive civil engineering experience with hands-on oversight of multiple large-scale earthwork and infrastructure projects, and three decades of senior property and construction leadership. Randall and Travis provide additional principal-level management and field leadership, giving the company depth beyond any single person, crew, or project.
Commercial Construction Leadership Applied to a Family Building Company
Edwin's role is not limited to supervising one crew or one structure. His background is applied at the company level—setting standards, reviewing difficult site and construction conditions, coordinating resources, and providing final direction across multiple active projects.

Edwin's connection to Appalachian building traditions influences the proportion, rooflines, trim details, material choices, and practical character of the structures TVSC builds today. The architectural influence is important, but the company's operating discipline comes from a much broader construction background.
Following U.S. Army service, Edwin earned a Construction Management degree and built a career in senior commercial construction and property leadership. His work included medical facilities, municipal public works, corporate campuses, hospitality renovations, and extensive hands-on oversight of large-scale earthwork and infrastructure projects.
Large-scale project experience developed practical judgment in grading, drainage, site access, earthwork, utilities, sequencing, coordination, inspection, and the relationship between site conditions and long-term building performance.
At TVSC, that experience is applied across the organization. Edwin reviews significant project conditions, establishes construction standards, assists with resource planning, resolves unusual field issues, and serves as the final decision-maker when a project requires senior judgment.
This allows Edwin to remain directly accountable without becoming a bottleneck. Randall and Travis provide additional principal-level leadership, and trained crews execute the field work under that management structure. The result is a company that can remain personal and responsive while operating with significantly more capacity than a single-crew builder.
Experience That Supports Planning, Oversight, and Execution
The value of professional experience is how it improves judgment, coordination, resource allocation, communication, and the completed project.
Experience, Training & Project Relevance
Each item below connects Edwin's background and TVSC's operating model to a practical part of planning and managing a homeowner's project.
Three Principals. Multiple Crews. One Building Standard.
TVSC is small enough for the principals to remain directly accountable, yet structured to manage multiple crews and concurrent projects without relying on one individual to perform every field task.
Management Depth Without Corporate Layers
Edwin, Randall, and Travis each provide project management and oversight, giving TVSC the ability to allocate leadership, crews, equipment, and specialty resources according to the size and complexity of the work.
Resources Matched to the Project
Capacity is more than crew count. It requires management, equipment, scheduling, trade coordination, operating resources, and the financial ability to support material procurement and project execution at different scales.
Built to Support Straightforward and Complex Projects
TVSC assigns crews, equipment, supervision, specialty trades, and project resources based on actual scope rather than forcing every building through a one-size-fits-all production model.

Multiple crews only create real capacity when they work from the same standards. TVSC uses defined site, drainage, moisture, and foundation requirements so project growth does not depend on changing the building standard from one crew to another.
How TVSC Manages Projects From Planning Through Completion
The process is designed to support both individual homeowner attention and the disciplined management of multiple active projects.
Defined Scope, Assigned Resources, Principal Oversight
Each project moves through the same planning framework while manpower, equipment, principal oversight, and specialty trades are assigned according to project-specific requirements.
Storage, workshop, studio, office, garden building, retreat, recreational space, or another use is discussed first because intended use drives structural, comfort, utility, opening, and finish decisions.
Placement, grade, drainage, access, exposure, staging, setbacks, equipment access, and prepared-pad requirements are reviewed in the context of the proposed structure.
The scope identifies materials, project components, applicable exclusions, options, and pricing so resources can be planned from a defined construction scope.
Principal oversight, crew manpower, equipment, material logistics, and specialty trades are coordinated according to size, complexity, schedule, and critical work activities.
TVSC crews perform the on-site building work under the company's management structure, with principal review and specialty-trade coordination incorporated as the project requires.
The completed building is reviewed against the project scope, with final items addressed before project closeout and Edwin available as final authority on unresolved construction or scope questions.
From Straightforward Backyard Structures to Substantially More Complex Builds
TVSC's project mix can range from approximately $6,000 structures to $150,000+ custom projects, depending on building size, site conditions, structural requirements, utilities, interior finishes, mechanical systems, and customization.

The service area is managed around project logistics and the ability to provide appropriate supervision, crews, equipment, and scheduling—not around the assumption that one three-person crew must personally perform every project.

Whether the project is a straightforward backyard structure or a substantially more involved custom building, the first conversation is used to understand intended use, property conditions, scope, schedule, and the resources required to execute the work properly.
